Dark Opacities Lab Welcomes Kevin Yuen Kit Lo as Assistant Director

Dark Opacities Lab is pleased to announce the appointment of its first Assistant Director, Kevin Yuen Kit Lo. Previously, Kevin served as Interim Director of the Lab in Fall 2024. He has served as a member of The Surrounds (the lab’s steering committee), and has been a frequent collaborator with the lab on programming and other projects, including “Design, Power, and Antifascism(s).” In his capacity as Assistant Director, Kevin will serve to help spearhead an exciting new project for the lab, in addition to contributing to mentorship and programming. Bio:

Kevin Yuen Kit Lo is Assistant Professor in Communication Design and Visual Culture in the Department of Design and Computation Arts, Concordia University. He works at the intersections of graphic design, cultural production, and social change, with a research focus on contemporary publication practices and social movements. His current research-creation project, Matter vs. Spirit, can be found on his blog (mattervsspirit.bearblog.dev) and at the VC lab (7th floor) at Concordia University.

Kevin founded the graphic design studio LOKI in 2014, working alongside community organizations, non-profits, cultural and educational institutions, unions, artists, researchers and activist groups, as part of broader movements for social change. Kevin holds an MA in Typographic Design from the London College of Printing (UAL). He is a member of the Justseeds artist co-operative and the Memefest network, and is the author of Design Against Design (2024) with Set Margins’ Press.
